2017 was a great year for games but it also had it’s share of games that were absolute shit. Today we will counting down the shittiest games of 2017. To make the list I will need to have played the game so the list will be relatively small.
4.Agents Of Mayhem
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
Developer: Deep Silver Volition
My Score: C– 6.9
This game comes from the developer of the hilarious and well made Saints Row games and serves as a spin-off game from the main line Saints Row games. The game starts off relatively strong but after about 5 hours of game-play you realize the game is little more than a repetitive, overly grindy mess with some very cringey dialogue. While the game has it’s few moments of genuinely funny humor and fun game-play it just can’t justify the original $59.99 price tag. I will admit I did enjoy myself while initially playing this as a die hard Saints Row fan but after completing it realized just how shallow the game truly was. If you love Saints Row wait for it to go down to $19.99 during the next steam sale or something if you want to play it. The game’s not entirely bad it’s just mediocre which is why it’s only starting off the list.
3. Star Wars Battle Front 2 EA
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
Developer: Dice, Criterion
My score of the game: B+ or 8.9
My score of EA’s business practices: F or 1.2
Hear me out on this one. this one is less on here for being a bad game, the game itself is actually decent, but rather for the absolutely deplorable business practices that were in the game at launch. I’m not going to go into detail about the specifics of the business model but let’s just say everyone and their grandmother now knows what a loot box is. And while yes the loot boxes are disabled right now it’s only because Disney called up Ea and said hey cut the shit you’re ruining the hype for The Last Jedi. While yes I still play the game I in no way condone EA’s business practices and in fact found them to be disgusting and greedy and basically what is wrong with gaming today.
2. Doki Doki Literature Club
Developer: Team Salvato
My score: F or 4.2
This entry is probably going to get me in a lot of shit with a very passionate fan base but this is my opinion. For those of you who don’t know what Doki Doki Literature Club is it’s basically the latest gaming craze that the internet is freaking out over. If you wish to play the game and haven’t skip this entry because spoilers are inbound. The game starts off as a visual novel type of game but then turns into a 4th wall breaking psychological horror in its second act. I played through the game in full due to glowing recommendations from my friends and after beating the game I have to say it’s not the special masterpiece of a game everyone makes it out to be. The dialogue can go from decent at best to a poorly written mess. The characters are all based off a specific cliche which makes it hard to care about what happens to them once shit hits the fan. The game literally only exists so it can profit off the gimmick of 4th wall breaking, which would be fine if the story was any good but at the end the game just feels pointless with no real meaning behind the story other than to capitalize off a gimmick. I wanting to like the game like everyone else but the game just feels like a cheap one trick pony.
1.Mass Effect Andromeda
Platforms:Xbox One, PS4, PC
Developer: Bioware Montreal
My Score: C- or 6.2
Fan bases anger: 10/10 myself included
This entry hurts my soul to write because the original Mass Effect trilogy are some of my favorite games of all time. So naturally when they announced a new Mass Effect the hype was through the roof. Unfortunately what we got was a glitchy game with a run of the mill story and bland open world environments. Overall the game had some memorable moments/characters and some fun gameplay but it was not enough to save this game. Hopefully we will see a good Mass Effect game again someday but until then here’s hoping Anthem lives up to the hype.
